My captain, he's decorated - he's well schooled and he's skilled.

Even though we've been slacking a bit on the crafting side of craft week, we're going to stick to schedule and keep this Friday the 'cheat' night - making a little something for ourselves instead of others. This week's craft: holiday ornaments.

There are so many ideas on flickr and craftzine and google, I had a hard time narrowing it down. But here is a sampling of some ideas:

Knit ball
need: yarn scraps (1 - 3 yards) in a variety of colors and a set of DPNs (probably size 1 - 3 depending on your yarn), stuffing

fabric round
need: wooden embroidery hoop, scraps of cloth, ribbon to hang
felt wreaths
need: felt, fabric glue, ribbon. You could also adorn with buttons, bells, or other embellishments.
knit candy
need: partial skeins of yarn in two colors, needles, ribbon, stuffing
mini-stockings
need:a few yards of yarn in a variety of colors, a set of DPNs (size 0-2 depending on your yarn)
painted ball
you could get away with reusing old ornaments, new ornaments, or other estranged objects (like a foam ball and then just pin the hanger into the foam); need: paint, glitter, glue, ribbon or string, and any other embellishments you'd like to add
origami
mixing this in with other ornaments might lose the impact, but I can see a tree completely decorated in paper cranes (the same paper or compatible papers) being quite beautiful. You'll have to bring online instructions for these, origami is not in my repertoire of know-how

simple button wreath:
need: assortment of buttons, wire or filament, ribbon

'marbled' glass ornament
need: clear glass ornament, variety of paints (preferably some opaque and some transparent); you just pour the paint in the top and swirl it around!
